MY FIRST YEAR IN MED SCHOOL
Being born in an Indian family was one of the reasons I
decided to study medicine. See, every desi parent considers Medicine as a dream
career for their children to pursue, so that one day they can proudly announce to the society that “My son/daughter is a doctor”.
Jokes apart, I think I’m starting to have an interest in
medicine now (after a year), well since I had no future plans set for myself,
and I’m pretty sure there are a lot of people out there who don’t know what to
pursue after finishing O-level and A-level education, or was it just me?!?! *thinking

My experience with the first year of med school was
exciting. I got to learn new stuffs, manage my time and finances, study by
using electronic devices, cutting dead bodies and cadavers stuffs...
I also faced a lot of challenges in the beginning, since
this was the first time I officially stayed away from my family, unable to
manage time – waking up at 7.50 am whilst having a lecture starting at 8.00 am,
financial management issues - spending like there’s no tomorrow or not spending
at all (no in-betweens). Not being able to study at home due to over
exhaustion, like how do they expect us to study from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (I
exaggerated, not considering the breaks in-between) and coming back home and
studying more!
But I guess that’s the fun in medicine, it’s supposed to be
hard. If it were easy, everyone would be a doctor right now. As a great man
once said to me (JK I googled this up) “Medicine – Fucking my life to save
yours”. Medicine is not all about passing exams, it’s studying for the day when
you are the only thing between a patient and a grave. (So motivating yeah! I
googled this up too).
Thanks for reading!
